Program Description:Ashland University provide post-secondary education to correctional facilities with no cost to students. We provide certificate programs, Associate of Arts in General Studies, and Bachelor of Science in Communication Studies. More degrees are in the process of being approved by our faculty. This program is delivered fully online by faculty from on-campus as well as adjunct instructors. All curriculum is created and approved by Ashland University faculty and Department Chairs.

Unique Features:With the program being online, we are able to meet students in their own situations whether it be acknowledging transfer credits, need to some reinforced writing skills, and the ability of the student to complete the program after release. We have multiple personnel that serve students in each state and after release.

Correctional Facilities Served:Ashland operates programming in 33 facilities in Ohio, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Louisiana.
Population Served:We serve approximately 1500 hundred student both men and women in 33 sites, 45 adjudicated youth, and 20 reentry students who are completing their degrees after release.

Graduates to Date:Since the beginning of the Pell ESI, we have graduated 173 with the AA degree.
Year Founded:AU’s initial program was founded in 1964 and we have been running some sort of post-secondary programming ever since. The degree programs were added back after the Pell ESI grant was awarded to Ashland University.
