Program Description:Independent Study in Idaho (ISI) was created in 1973 by the Idaho State Board of Education as a cooperative of four regionally accredited Idaho institutions led by the University of Idaho. Other cooperating members include Lewis-Clark State College, Idaho State University, and Boise State University. The ISI office is located in Moscow, Idaho on the University of Idaho campus, Agricultural Science Building, Suite 304. Courses are college-level.ISI is unique as it has open enrollment. Students can register anytime and start anytime. Courses for most students are delivered online through the BbLearn Course Management System; however, a paper-based course is adapted for incarcerated students. Students work at their own pace within the limits set by the course instructor on the number of assignments that can be submitted per week; students can take up to a year to complete although most students complete in less time. Students should plan for a minimum of three months to complete most ISI courses. Idaho residency is not required. Admission to cooperating institutions is not required. Same in-state and out-of-state fees. There are almost 100 courses in more than 25 subject areas. ISI does not offer degrees; however, credits earned upon course completion transfer to most colleges and universities.
Degrees Offered:ISI does not offer degrees; however, credits earned upon course completion transfer to most colleges and universities. Students use Independent Study in Idaho course credits to apply to degrees earned at other institutions. For example, credits earned for college-courses sponsored by University of Idaho academic departments for delivery through Independent Study in Idaho will go on the University of Idaho transcript with a designation as being earned through Independent Study in Idaho.
