Program Description: Wesleyan’s CPE offers incarcerated men and women at Cheshire and York prisons the opportunity to take Wesleyan college courses for credit and earn an Associate’s degree in General Studies.

Programs Offered: The program’s only goal is to offer a well-rounded curriculum aimed at introducing students to the widest possible range of disciplines and methodologies in the liberal arts. The program therefore offers a broad curricular sequence of Wesleyan courses in the humanities and the natural and social sciences, depending on what faculty choose to offer as courses.The program also offers a college prep program that is run by Wesleyan main campus student volunteers.

Correctional Facilities Served: Cheshire Correctional, York Correctional
Population Served: Incarcerated Populations: maximum security men’s facility (Cheshire) & multi-level women’s facility (York). 100 Wesleyan undergraduates volunteer with CPE, either as writing tutors and teaching assistants at the prisons, or as CPE office interns on the Wesleyan campus.

Graduates to Date: The degree component was just added, so we do not currently have data to answer this question. All students in the program are matriculated as degree candidates.We hope to have our first graduation in 2017
